Let’s Celebrate Love: Valentine’s Day ‘Date Night In’ Ideas
It is the month of pink and red - the colours of LOVE. While I believe that love should be celebrated on the regular, life sometimes gets in the way, hindering those impactful daily expressions of appreciation & admiration. With Valentine’s Day so soon, we think February is the month to honour your romantic impulses. Amidst the falling snowflakes and winter sunsets, succumb to your homebody ways and find ways to devote precious time to your loved ones on this annual celebration of love.
The Power Of The Love Letter
Set the scene with flickering candles, sit together, and take a few moments to write each other a heartfelt letter. This could be a hope you have for your relationship, a cherished memory, or a list of things you love about your partner. There is some compelling force that will pull you towards your partner in this moment of shared silence when the memories + love linger in the air. Truly, the power of written words go beyond the physical paper reminder, they recovery forgotten sentiments and evoke a mental journey of your relationship.
Sensual Bath Experience
Set aside some time to soak in hot aromatic bathwater, while enjoying the company of your partner. Fill the tub with sumptuous bubbles, like PURA’s gentle and all-natural Whimsical Bubbles, and let the aroma of lavender + geranium + calendula relax your senses, drawing you closer to your loved one. You can also incorporate therapeutic oils into your sensual bath experience, like PURA’s Muscle Melt or Cocoa & Rose Body Oil, by massaging the nourishing botanical ingredients into your partner’s back, neck, and arms. Pair with candlelight, artisan chocolates, and your favourite musician or romantic playlist to heighten the romance.
Build A Mini Love Fortress
Perhaps my favourite Valentine’s Day tradition is the act of channelling my inner child and building at blanket fort in the living room with my partner. Create the ultimate romantic haven by adding twinkling lights, an abundance of candles (if you haven’t guessed by now, candles are my go-to for a romantic setting), a charcuterie board of hand-selected gourmet meats + cheese, and a handful of classic 90s films (Notting Hill, Sleepless in Seattle, You’ve Got Mail, and Ghost – just to name a few). Bonus points if you are able to set up a projector!
Include The Little Ones - Family Baking
A note from PURA’s founder, Lane Edwards, on how she spends her Valentine’s Day:
My kids love to bake, so we've made it our tradition to bake a heart shaped cake with chocolate icing, and pink and red sprinkles for Valentine's. My mom's birthday was on Valentine's Day, (my grandparents sweetly named her Valerie, after the holiday). To celebrate her life with a slice of delicious cake always gives us the warm fuzzies. My kids are their happiest licking spoons, bowls, and beaters, waiting for the oven timer to go off to indulge in their sweet tooth. It reminds me of my own childhood, baking with my mom, whom I miss very much. Happy Valentine's from our home to yours! xoxo
